WELCOME

Bellingham Emerging Green Builders is a coalition of students and young professionals who are working to build momentum and community interest in the future of the green building movement in Bellingham Washington. We are an Associated Student’s club at Western Washington University and a committee of the US Green Building Council under the guidance of the USGBC Cascadia chapter office.

Local EGB groups are forming across the country as an integrated part of USGBC chapters. Chapters are excited to have involvement of young people, and local EGB members are gaining access to new resources and networking opportunities, participating in a wide range of locally organized events including workshops, seminars, an annual design competition, job/internship postings and participation in the largest green building conference and expo, Greenbuild.

News
Western's newest building, the Academic Instructional Center, is being built now. When the construction contract was approved by the Board of Trustees on February 9, 2007 the idea of having a LEED certified building was not a priority. After receiving a letter from students in the Emerging Green Builders, Students for Renewable Energy and Huxley Chapter of Air & Waste Mgmt. clubs, the administration arranged an eco-charette to consider going back to LEED. At the end of the eco-charette, there was a consensus by those attending that the administration should in fact recommend to the Board of Trustees that the building go for LEED certification after all. This news is an incredible success story for our club.
